This webinar will discuss the types of spaces that LGBTQIA+ travelers and workers encounter. The discrimination that LGBTQIA+ QTPOC experience are compounded by their intersecting identities. According to a poll by NPR, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, “LGBTQ people of color are more than twice as likely as their white counterparts to say they've been discriminated against because they are LGBTQ in applying for jobs and interacting with police. LGBTQ people of color are six times more likely to say they have avoided calling the police (30 percent) owing to concern about anti-LGBTQ discrimination, compared with white LGBTQ people (5 percent). If you have any questions about the webinar or registration, please contact Sheila Mitra-Sakar (She/Her/Ella & PoGM) at sheila@futuretrans.org.

Activists in communities find power in maps to explore the data and show how poor environmental oversight—and environmental racism—continue to impact health and longevity in communities of color. Key Takeaways Smart mapping with GIS proves an imperative tool across environmental justice initiatives. Leaders share maps showing where environmental risks unfairly impact communities of color. Activists use GIS to engage stakeholders on regulations, policy, and other equity solutions.

My name is Cole Grisham and I’m co-managing a transportation research study with the US DOT Volpe Center (copied) titled Planning and Data-Sharing Partnerships Between Governments and Public Land Management Agencies (PLMAs). The study’s goal is to highlight best practices, processes, and tools for data sharing for public lands transportation decision-making. As part of the data collection effort, we are looking for examples of data sharing practices between PLMAs and their partners for deeper case study discussions over the next year. We believe that contacting TRB committees with a related focus to the study could be a valuable starting point. Planning or project delivery cases can be from any point in the transportation lifecycle and fits one or more of the following characteristics (see attached flyer for more detail): Multi-agency involvement Variety of types of data Diversity of circumstances and contexts Different project phases Ability of sharing processes to be replicated My ask: Do you or your colleagues know of an example of data sharing practices between PLMAs and their partners you think this study should highlight? If so, please use the linked form below to submit a case study idea or email the study’s co-manager’s directly (nicholas.grisham@dot.gov and heather.richardson@dot.gov), and we would be happy to talk more. Submissions will be accepted now through June 4th, 2021. Submit Case Study Idea

We are contacting you to request your participation in distributing a survey about the equitable deployment of transportation technologies. The survey includes questions related to equity planning, technology planning, and the equity opportunities and challenges of transportation technologies. This survey is being conducted as part of a doctoral dissertation at Texas A&M University in Urban and Regional Science. The intended participants are planners at MPOs across the U.S. If you could share the survey with your member list, it would be a great help to our research team! The responses will provide an overview of how planners are considering the possible benefits and costs of emerging technologies, especially to equity communities such as low-income, minority, and Limited English Proficiency populations as well as people with disabilities. All survey results will be made available to participants and the outcome of this research aims to provide practical advice for incorporating equity into transportation technology projects and investments. Previous research has been conducted on equity and emerging technologies are Metropolitan Planning Agencies and this survey will provide new insights into how planners view emerging technologies and how equity should be considered. If you have any questions about the study or the results, please contact Jacqueline Kuzio at jackikuzio@tamu.edu. The survey can be found at the following link: https://tamu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_a5xGW3EQBdGn9P0

The Minnesota Department of Transportation is looking for participants to join the gender equity in transportation research technical advisory panel. The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) has been having transportation equity conversations around Greater Minnesota.  We have had a difficult time connecting with organizations that represent women, girls, and LGBT+ folks. As a result, MnDOT is completing a gender equity in transportation research project to help us understand to role gender identity plays in transportation behavior. This will be the first such research project completed in the upper Midwest and we would love to have one person from your committee participate! Our goal is to meet approximately 6 times for 90 minutes over the next two years with the requirement of follow-up work between meetings. The first meeting is expected in early March to discuss the project and to review the work plan. If interested in serving on the panel, email your interest to Hally Turner, Policy Planning Director with MnDOT at hally.turner@state.mn.us. The research study will be focused around advancing gender equity in accessibility and travel experiences. The project will concentrate on the subjective well-being of participants in transportation using reported identity. If you are interested in reading more about the project, feel free to check out this link. Thank you for your consideration.

From Carl See, Washington State Transportation Commission... I’m leading a policy study with the intent of recommending low-income toll program options for priced managed lanes in Washington State, as directed by our state legislature. We are interested in gathering information on whether others in the tolling community have implemented or considered low-income toll programs, and would significantly benefit from the viewpoint of other agencies and practitioners on this topic. We have put together a quick survey (located here) for this purpose.
